I’m a Filofax fan and have been for many years. This purchase was the latest and I believe I can say that I now own a small library of Filofax.
As this was a special edition I had an elevated expectation, as the marketing implied this was to be more than a standard Malden - it was to be special!
Upon unwrapping today’s arrival the first thing I noticed was the colour; I was expecting a near-black, smooth matt leather with a slightly antique finish. I found a standard Malden polished leather in a slate grey with a slightly green hint.
My second disappointment was the ring mechanism. This had a decidedly plastic aspect, far less robust than my previous Filofax. It lacks the customary snap and strength of my older purchases.
When turning pages they seem to catch as the ring separated slightly when the gentlest pressure was applied to straighten out the cover. The rings part very easily and the plasticity finish to the rings gives a stickiness to each page turn.
I like the gold stitching and the construction is good, but the hardware is vey poor quality and reminiscent of much cheaper “wannabe” Filofax that are sold on site like Amazon for a fraction of the cost. I would have considered returning it but as I have already committed to entering appointments in the diary pages I feel compelled to keep it.
Not a winner for me and if the ring mechanism s the standard that can be expected in future I will check Nader looking at other less renowned brands in future.

Pleased with my New Malden up to a point, but when you open the filofax it doesn't open so it's flat which is quite annoying and closes back up so if you are on the phone you need both hands to keep it open - not easy. The rings do need to be slightly larger to accommodate diary pages, notes, address etc. I do like the gold touches and stitching but it is an expensive filofax - hopefully I'll never need another one!

Beautiful color, gold rings and metal zipper makes this organizer a classy choice.
